(Even if you swear you’re “awkward” in photos)

If you’ve ever said,

“We’re not very photogenic…”

“We feel awkward in front of the camera…”

“We don’t know what to do with our hands…”

You’re not alone.

Almost every couple says this to me at some point. And yet, without fail, they look natural, joyful, and completely themselves in their final gallery.

So what’s the difference?

It’s not about being “good” in front of a camera.

It’s about feeling safe, comfortable, and gently guided.

Here’s how we make that happen.

1. Let Go of the Idea of “Posing”

The word posing makes most people tense up immediately.

You imagine stiff smiles. Forced angles. Being placed somewhere and told to hold still.

That’s not how I work.

Instead of rigid posing, I use gentle prompts and movement. I might ask you to walk hand in hand, whisper something ridiculous to make each other laugh, or simply pause and breathe together.

You’re not performing.

You’re interacting.

The result feels real because it is real; just thoughtfully guided.

2. We Create Space to Breathe

Wedding days are beautiful... and full.

You’re surrounded by guests who love you, conversations happening everywhere, emotions running high. It can be overwhelming.

That’s why stepping away for portraits isn’t about rushing through photos quickly. It’s about giving you both a moment to pause.

A chance to:

  • Take everything in
  • Laugh without an audience
  • Reset and reconnect
  • Remember why you’re here in the first place

We don’t set a stressful 15-minute timer and power through.

We take our time. We keep it relaxed. We let it feel easy.

And while you’re simply being together, I’m quietly curating beautiful, editorial imagery around you.

3. I Guide You Without Overwhelming You

You’ll never be left wondering what to do, but you’ll also never feel micromanaged.

If your hand placement needs adjusting, I’ll gently guide it.

If the light shifts, I’ll move you subtly.

If a moment is already perfect, I won’t interrupt it.

Most of the time, couples say afterwards:

“That didn’t even feel like a photoshoot.”

That’s always the goal.

4. Energy Matters More Than Angles

Relaxed images come from relaxed energy.

That’s why I bring a calm, steady presence into your day. Not loud. Not intrusive. Just supportive and observant.

When you feel comfortable with the person behind the camera, your shoulders drop. Your smile softens. Your connection deepens.

And that’s when the magic happens; not because it’s forced, but because it’s genuine.

5. You Don’t Need to “Perform”

This is the most important part:

You don’t need to be more confident.

You don’t need to know your angles.

You don’t need to practice.

You just need to show up as yourselves.

My role is to notice the way you naturally interact; – the way you squeeze hands, the way you laugh, the way you look at each other – and elevate it with thoughtful composition and light.

You focus on each other.

I’ll focus on the rest.

A Gentle Truth

Some of the most beautiful images come from couples who told me they hated having their photo taken.

Not because they suddenly became models.

But because they felt supported.

When you feel relaxed, everything else falls into place.

And when you look back at your photographs, you won’t see awkwardness.

You’ll see joy.

You’ll see connection.

You’ll see yourselves at your very best.
