Every photographer’s journey is different, and mine began long before weddings became my professional focus. As a teenager, I found myself photographing family and friends’ weddings; capturing moments that would become memories for a lifetime. Even then, I felt the weight and importance of a wedding day, and the responsibility to document it honestly and beautifully.
First Lessons in Heart and Connection
While studying photography at college, I was entrusted with a deeply meaningful project: a local family’s wedding that had to happen quickly because the bride’s father had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. The family approached my teacher looking for a last-minute, affordable photographer, and my teacher only told me because she trusted me to approach it with the professionalism and care it required.
That day broke my heart. The father showered me with compliments and insisted I remain with them until I had danced with him, the bride, and the groom. I felt like part of the family; a connection I have carried with me ever since. That wedding cemented my understanding of how profoundly important a single day can be, and why every moment matters.
Broadening Horizons: From Family Weddings to High-End Events
After that formative experience, I embraced every opportunity to photograph. From proms and family portraits to newborn puppies, I sought out a variety of subjects to develop my eye, technical skill, and understanding of people.
Part-time work for an online car blog took me to high-end events across the UK, from Salon Privé to Aston Martin’s centennial celebration, the Rolls Royce art gallery at the Saatchi Gallery, and the Silverstone Classic. These experiences taught me how to navigate fast-paced, high-profile events while keeping attention on the story unfolding before my lens.
University Years: Discipline, Creativity, and Hustle
University brought a new level of challenge: a full-time creative course, 9–5 every weekday, alongside three additional jobs. One of these roles was photographing nightlife at the student union, where I honed my instinct for capturing authentic moments in dynamic, unpredictable settings.
Every shoot, every job, every assignment contributed to my philosophy today: anticipate, connect, and create images that feel editorial yet authentic. Even under pressure, I learned to combine technical skill with empathy, making people feel at ease and ensuring moments were captured without intrusion.
From Foundation to Weddings
All of these experiences – family weddings, high-end events, and the energy of live photography – have shaped my approach to weddings. Today, I bring storytelling, elegance, and emotional intelligence to every day I photograph. Being named one of the Top 50 Wedding Photographers in Britain and No.1 in Lincolnshire by Weddings & Honeymoons Magazine, alongside receiving a Hitched Wedding Award, is a recognition of not only technical skill but the care and consistency I bring to every couple.
